This project tells the story of a river and some of the lives it shaped. The Mondego river is the longest river located exclusively within the Portuguese territory, and some of the places along the way — from its fountain up in the mountain, to its mouth down at the sea — have stories that are told in each chapter of this book, designed in collaboration with FBA.
Early on in the process this book was seen as a journey, so it made sense to include a map overlooking the complete area run by the river as a dust jacket. Every chapter was marked with the spot where the story takes place. This element guides each reader in a mapped index while accompanying the stories of Mondego.
The book was also designed keeping its purpose in mind: telling stories that should be pleasant to read. So the margins are comfortable for sitting both hands, and the images are presented in the same narrative dynamic as the stories themselves.
